And I want to write this quick guide for all you DIYers out there who have gone in and cleaned your throttle body on your Honda Civic/ Honda Odyssey… a bunch of different Honda’s with the electronic throttle and after you do that the idles super high and the car runs really rough, it misfires, you have all kinds of issues.
So unfortunately you either have to go to the dealer after you do that to clear the throttle position sensor calibration and reset that so you can do the idle re-learn you’re going to find it all over the Internet how to do an idle re-learn, but prior to doing that now you see my idle is just perfect.
I wanted to do this prior to writing this article to make sure it worked, so I’m gonna show you what I did, but now, it’s right at 650 rpm’s it’s just running great and definitely fixed it, so I’m gonna show you what I did.
I’ve got it plugged in at the moment so I’m going to show you through the menus really quick on how to because I could not find anywhere, how to actually do this, so I figured it out and I’m going to show you how to do it.
So I’m gonna go to Honda and you just use the left down up right, the directional pad to a get to your menu, I’m gonna go USA gonna start a new session, this takes a second to get into the system, so we’re gonna wait just a second.
Okay, now it says it’s loading data and then it’ll pop up the menu here and just to say.
Here we go, so what I want to do is go to “Control unit” that’s going to allow me to not only read information from the vehicle but also tell the vehicle to do some things that I want to do. In this case I went through all the menus I wasn’t sure what I was looking for, and I’m not sure what some of these acronyms stand for.
So I’m going to save you the trouble, it’s actually number one PGM FI, I wish I would have just started their but that’s the menu option you want to choose first for this particular reset and then scroll down all the way to No.12.
And NO.12 is the magical TP position check, so I can check that and it’s gonna tell me the throttle position learning value is within proper limits, but do I wish to continue, I’m gonna say yes.
Do you wish to reset the TP learning value, if you do not clean the throttle body, some problems may occur, well I cleaned my throttle body without clearing the TP calibration, so that’s what caused all the problems, my idles was really high, it was sporadic like I said, you know I’d be stopped at a red light and the car would kind of buck and move all over this place, I’m not going to select yes to continue because I’ve already done it, and I’ve already gone back in through the menu options.
And gone to NO 3 up from 12 and erased the codes and reset the check engine light, now my check engine lights off and I did it all with this nifty little tool I got it’s the Foxwell NT510, and now my car runs great, so hope this helps all you guys out there.
