Benz W204 Check Engine Light on Reset with Foxwell NT530

The story started like this: when I was browsing the mb forum, I noticed one user who has one Mercedes Benz C63 AMG (W204), 8 days ago he just had his car serviced, haven’t driven it since then. After the service, the car drove normally with no Check Engine Light on. Another one morning, started her up and she had a lumpy idle. Then when he put the car into gear, it “pulsed” forward and then a Check Engine Light came on. Turned the car off and on, CEL disappeared. Drove normally. It really got him scratching his head.

Then, I also noticed some users gave practical suggestions:

  1. Sounds like a misfire, I’ve had that before and the CEL cleared on restart. The code could be seen from a scanner.

Get a scanner then. They’re like 20 bucks.

  1. If you really want something MB specific and it is worth the investment so you can see ever module codes and do some resets (like airbag, abs, brakes etc) I would do a foxwell or icarsoft, both are in the $150-$170 usd range and are excellent to have. I have tried both and both work about the same, I have the NT530 foxwell and you can also add other brands to it for under 100 bucks in the future, so it isn’t throw away if you get rid of the merc or if you own another car.

Foxwell NT530 Benz scanner (159usd, you just want the one with the MB software loaded, and the above one is preinstalled with Mercedes Benz software).
